Surveillance Systems, offer more than just Security!
I recently read an article in Security Dealer & Integrator Magazine by Deborah L. O’Mara. She was talking about the fact that Security is much more than protection. It can be used for more than your standard Surveillance System.
I think we have dismissed the extra value added by Surveillance Systems long enough, security is just one benefit of a Surveillance System. However what about tracking customer activity and employee efficiency? Too many business say “I can’t afford a Surveillance System”, I think they can’t afford not to have a Surveillance System! DVR’s offer motion detection and more systems are able to be integrated with access control. One of the largest challenges the Surveillance and Security Industry face is educating the end user of the non-standard benefits that can be achieved through owning a Surveillance System.
When I walk into a retail store, gas station, or grocery store that does not have a Surveillance System, I feel the need to ask for the owner or manager. I have to ask them why they feel they do n’t need a Surveillance System? I usually find out they are not informed about what a professional DVR Surveillance System can provide. They also try to compare the cost to a standard alarm system. I only pay $39.95 per month for my security system, why do I need a $6,000 Surveillance System?
This is where it becomes important to the Surveillance Industry to have integrators that are educated, fast thinking, and stay up to date on the ever changing technology. We have to get rid of the image of a “guy in a truck” who can install a Surveillance System for $2,000! So subscribe to your industry magazines, get involved in your local associations, and educate your customer!!!
